Advanced Methods | Agile Methods in Software Development Projects - Advanced Methods | CCM

Knowledge

No specific prior knowledge is required. A basic understanding of project work and openness to group processes are helpful.

Description

Agile methods such as SCRUM are increasingly shaping the work in software development projects – not only in the IT sector, but also in related fields. This seminar introduces the fundamental principles of agile approaches and deepens their application through practical examples. The focus lies on working in and with agile roles, artifacts, and events – simulated within a realistic project context.

Students independently take on roles and apply selected agile techniques in various SCRUM events. A critical reflection on the role of agile methods in the leadership and organization of software projects forms the core of the final assessment.

Learning objectives

Students can explain the basic principles of agile methodologies and describe core concepts such as SCRUM roles, events, and artifacts.

Students can apply specific techniques of agile project work to common challenges in software development projects.

Students can compare agile and traditional project models and evaluate the suitability of agile approaches in different organizational contexts.

Students can reflect on the role of agile methods in leading software development projects and develop a well-founded position on their use.

Detailed information about the examinations

The examination (endterm) consists of a written paper in which students analyze a concrete application scenario for agile methods in their own projects. Based on a self-selected project context, they describe typical challenges and potentials, select appropriate SCRUM events and agile techniques, and justify their use. A central component of the paper is the reflection on the role of agile methods in the leadership and organization of the chosen project.

Second additional field

The seminar will be held in German.
