English | Language Test - Englisch | Sprachtest
Description
This test is intended for those students who need a language certificate to apply for a semester abroad but do not want to or cannot take a language course.
The test takes about 3.5 hours and covers the following: "Reading comprehension", "Writing", "Listening comprehension" and "Speaking".
Test procedure:
- "Reading comprehension": Students receive texts to which questions (usually in the form of multiple choice) are answered. Time limit: 45 minutes
- "Writing": Students write an essay on a given topic. Time limit: 40 minutes
- "Listening comprehension": Students are played audio files to which they have to answer questions/tasks (on paper, usually in the form of multiple choice). Time limit: 45 minutes
- "Speaking": Students are divided into small groups (2-3 people) and in these small groups comment on tasks/questions set by the examiner. Time limit: approx. 10 minutes per group
If the test is passed successfully, a language certificate (B2 or C1 depending on the result) can be issued.
Students who are registered for the test after the elective period but do not attend will have a "fail" shown on their transcript.
A registration fee of 50 euros plus 7% VAT is charged for this test. This fee is also due if you are registered but do not take the test.
Considering that the language certificate obtained after a language test is only valid for 2 years and that a semester abroad at a partner university can be started in the 5th Bachelor semester at the earliest, it does not make sense to take the language test in the 1st or 2nd Bachelor semester.
